Is it too late to help my overweight teen? We both have 50+ pounds to lose. I have tried everything possible to lose weight, and I always gain it back. She is following in my foot steps. I could live the rest of my life like this, but it pains me to watch it happen to her.

It's definitely not too late to help your daughter! First, even if you haven't succeeded yet, your daughter will see you trying to lose weight and this may encourage her to try too. Be open about your struggles, and explain that you don't want her to follow unhealthy patterns that will lead her to a lifetime of struggling. Talk to her about what you wish you had done differently at her age and how she has a chance to learn from your mistakes. It is important to pinpoint what is making your daughter gain weight, and address these issue immediately. Does she need to see a nutritionist to teach her healthy eating skills? Will it help her to enroll in some kind of an exercise program – or simply walk around the block with you every night!? Does she need to see a psychologist to talk about the emotional component of her eating, body image or self-esteem. It is NOT too late, but you must take proactive steps to help her – even if she resists a little along the way. And while you are helping your daughter, you might just help yourself as well. By stocking your kitchen with healthier foods and taking that walk with her in the neighborhood, perhaps you may see slow positive changes in your weight too. Together, it just may not be too late for either of you!
