Expert Q&A

By Lisa Lees

I have teenage twin daughters. Both are into dating. The problem is that one gets asked out more than the other. The other is outwardly jealous. How do I handle this sensitive dating issue with my daughters?

p>I would recommend that you sit down with the daughter who isn't dating much and talk to her about how that feels. It?s important for you to validate your daughter's feelings of jealousy and potential anger, resentment, and sadness but also to help her understand that all things in life are not fair and this issue happens to be one of those things. You can also talk to your daughter about how her jealous behavior is affecting other family members and together try to come up with better ways of coping with her feelings.

You should also be sure that the dating twin is not being deliberately hurtful by flaunting the fact that she is more socially active, and help the dating twin have some empathy for her sister's position, if necessary.
