Melody's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
June 27, 2000
The buzz around town is that we are all moving back to Oregon or Washington. I told the kids this was it. We were going back to the northwest. Too many people in the bay area, and the job paid really well, but it was just so stressful and hectic. And, besides, they provided enough stress in my life.
I figured I’d get all of this rebellion and opposition and "No way, we’re not moving back" and "You can’t do this to us!" and stuff like that. I prepared myself for it. But, no. These teenagers are so unpredictable, I thought.
"Hey, that sounds cool!" said Jeremy.
"I always wanted to check out the Seattle area!" said Jeremy’s girlfriend Chandel.
"I wouldn’t mind living close to Oregon or in Oregon!" said Stephen.
"Do you think I can find a job up there?" said Nick, Stephen’s friend.
"Yeah, let’s all go!" said Chris.
Wait a minute! I said I wanted a more peaceful life! And, now that at the mere mention of moving north, everyone, my kids and their friends, all want to come along! I can see it now -- and, as I write this diary entry, another short story formulates here.
The mom who fantasizes about a more peaceful and quiet life makes a getaway for Oregon. As she drives up Highway 101 with her little girl admiring the beautiful landscape -- the redwood trees and the ocean -- she looks in her rear view mirror. A feeling of dread washes over her.
She notices an entire car caravan of teenagers, her teenagers, other teenagers -- teenagers who honk the horns of the car and yell out the window and wave at her!!!
There is no escape! She realizes this as the takes a deep breath and drives onward -- further and further north. No matter where she goes, the teenagers follow her.
Can you see it?! I can. The kids will all follow me and bring a caravan of friends, and they’ll probably all want to crash with me because they won’t have places to stay, and…
OK, I’ve carried this whole fantasy too far now!
I’ve come to the conclusion that no matter where I go, the teenagers will follow. It’s my life destiny to somehow be surrounded by teenagers…
