Melody's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
May 14, 2000
So, I got into my little car and drove back home, not sure of where else to go. Some of my kids sat out front. And, the kids needed a ride, so I said all right, fine, hop in. So, we drove down the road, and the kids saw friends standing on street corners waiting for buses, and they yelled, "C'mon, we'll give you a ride." Next thing you know, I had a carload of teenagers squished in the back seat of my little car.
And, we drove by this lady's house who owns this cool car that she's selling. It's a Mitsubishi Mirage, black at first sight, but actually dark burgundy. And my son and I fell in love with the car, so we talked to the lady and test drove the car while the teenage friends waited around, and we told the lady yes, we'd buy it! So everyone cheered and said cool, and we told the lady we'd be back the next day to take care of all the car stuff.
So, I dropped the teenagers off at somebody's house, and everyone got out of my car except my little girl who goes with me almost everywhere, and we went to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things. And would you believe it? I ran into my exboyfriend at Wal-Mart! I should have known! It was inevitable that sooner or later we'd meet there again considering he goes to Wal-Mart all the time. I was just a bit surprised, but after a while, we stood around and talked just like old friends, and that old "feeling" didn't creep into my stomach like it used to all the time. I think I am finally healed and completely over the hurt. It was as if the whole thing never happened. This is a good thing, I thought! And he kept talking and talking about his kids and how one has chicken pox now, and things like that. Glad I'm finally over this situation, I thought!
So, we left Wal-Mart after a while, and I figured since it was still early and the big kids were all gone for the day, we'd take a road trip south to visit a guy friend that I know. So we drove a long way and I didn't even get lost. And, we visited this guy friend, and had a great time, and we didn't get home until really late.
And it was pouring rain when I drove back, so it took forever. It was really late when we got home, and the house was still a total mess. I figured nobody had remembered Mother's Day, but nestled in some plastic bags and stuff lying on the kitchen table, I found this card -- drawn and made by my teenage son.
And, it said:
Mom,
Thank you for always being there for me and the other kids our whole life and for giving us the best life possible even in the worst of times. I know we have our differences, but I will always love you. I think you know that, but sometimes, we all need a little reminder. Well, thank you for being the best Mom, I wouldn't trade you! I love you :-) Happy Mother's Day!
P.S. You always liked made cards better.
And, then he wrote the following poem:
My Mom
You're the greatest Mom of all,
If I'm in trouble you take my call,
You are there to catch my fall,
You were there at my first crawl,
And when I was walking at age two,
You bought me my first underoos...
You stayed by my side as I grew,
I just wanted to say -- I LOVE YOU!
And I sat in the messy kitchen and stared at the card, and a tear ran down my cheek as I realized, somebody remembered! And suddenly the messy house didn't matter anymore. I carried my little one into the house and carefully laid her into bed. She had already been asleep in the car for hours, lucky her!
