Ok, it's happened. The extra teenagers no longer live with us! It's just me and my teenagers, although one of my kids' friends spent the night the other night and assured me he was just spending the night and NOT moving in, shesssssh! Now I have a decent chance of getting into my bathroom to take a shower, not an easy feat, even with just me and MY teenagers.
In order to use the shower in my house (and there's only one bathroom with a bathtub/shower), one must sit by the door with their clothes and a towel and RUN in right after the other person leaves the bathroom. I kid you not! If you falter for one moment and run off to do something before returning to the bathroom, I guarantee that bathroom will be occupied AGAIN! I mean, I know it's necessary to be clean and take showers, but how CLEAN must these teenagers be?! I ask you this!
Now I do have a fighting chance to get into the bathroom...but it's always a challenge, just not as much of a challenge now.
And, the funny thing is that I just found out the other day that the teachers and the staff at Megan's school all think that I have six teenagers at my house, and that they are all living with me! Wow, imagine that.
The school nurse came to our house a while back, and there were actually six teenagers running in and out. And she said she "sympathized and wished me well" as she held my hand and tapped it reassuringly.
Then, when I showed up at the office, the lady who worked there handed me a free hot lunch form and said I should definitely qualify with all the mouths I had to feed in my house, and how she sympathized and wished me the best...and wondered how in the world I did it.
Well, Megan and I went to her open house the other night, and each of the kids had written stories about themselves. And Megan said she had six siblings instead of three: Stevie, Melissa and Jeremy as well as Stephanie, Connie and Doug who are actually her dad's kids (and they are grown now), but she included them anyway. And that's when I realized -- no wonder. These people are all convinced that all six teenagers are MINE!
Can you imagine living with six teenagers? I just realized something. I've done it...I should be committed! But, you know what? You've gotta love 'em!
I've thought about bringing my boyfriend over to the house so that my kids could meet him. Megan has met Gary and she loves him. No, I am not worried about my teenagers. But, as I've stated before, I am concerned that having Gary meet the teenagers is sort of like throwing a teddy bear in with Freddy Krueger, poor guy! So, guess what? It just has NOT happened yet!!!!
So, my relationship (which I don't have incredible time for anyway) remains an ominous thing to my teenagers. Sometimes they assure me they would be nice to this guy if I brought him over, and at other times, it's like...Hmmm...Mom! Just wait 'til HE comes over here! I'm afraid, very afraid!!!
