Koren's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
December 14, 2000
Have to be brief this week as my schedule -- like so many other folks’ schedules -- is extremely busy! So here’s an update:
Shannon
Grace Conedy, a friend and fellow church member, will fly to Japan to visit Shannon next week and will spend the Christmas holiday with her. She will play Santa for us, winging Shannon’s gifts -- and a case of "bubbles" (see last week’s entry for an explanation) -- to Shannon’s awaiting arms. The two girls will also fly to Seoul, Korea for a couple days. Not because they are jet-setters, but because of a continuing visa problem.
Since our daughter is volunteering (a.k.a. "working for free") she was unable to get a work visa. So, periodically, she must leave Japan for a few days and then return to comply with the country’s visitor regulations. The mission group is trying to get Shannon enrolled in a class, so she can qualify for a student visa. If this works, she can settle in until early Spring without having to constantly leave Japan.
Shannon’s Cat
Yes, the dreadful de-clawing operation took place and the little kitty is recovering. She had sore paws for about a week, but now is playfully batting at ornaments on our Christmas tree! Shannon, I hope, has forgiven us.
Ashley
Ashley arrives this coming Wednesday for her holiday visit. She may even be home for good as early as next month. I’m nervously making preparations. She seems to have made great improvement from what her counselor and her grandmother have said. (She had a lovely visit with Grandma on Thanksgiving weekend.) I’ll keep you posted on how things go...
Joshua
Joshua took a spill last week at school, slammed his head hard against the cafeteria floor and sustained a concussion. Had to watch him for seizures, convulsions, nausea, etc. Very scary. The incident highlighted a real safety concern at his school. The boys are playing too rough and the staff are not properly trained to handle injuries (Not so much as a first aid card in the bunch. Just a "floating" nurse that travels to different schools throughout the district). My husband, the firefighter/EMT, is helping me to address the issue. We hope to bring about positive change.
That’s a wrap for now. Hope all of you are finding time to enjoy your holiday. Take a moment in the rush to hug your kids, marvel at the lights and try talking to the tired strangers standing in line with you at the post office or department store. I’m sure they would appreciate a friendly face.
Happy Holidays!
