Bridgett's Diary Entries

Mr. Social trying to enjoy what is left of his summer.....

August 10, 2006

It has been so long since I have really written, there is so much to write about, I forget what I have already written about and what I still need to write about. So, I guess I will just start with what is going on here and now.

As I think I have said before, Tyler is my Mr. Social. Tyler has friends calling all the time asking for him to come over or if they can come over. He has even had a couple of the girls in his class calling and inviting him to go on bike rides first thing in the morning before it gets really hot. Funny thing is, Tyler has only made it biking a time or two because he just wasn't up that early.

For posterities sake I just want to add in here my feelings on this whole girl thing. Tyler is fascinated with another girl in his class (I will just call her "S"). "S" is the girl that Tyler wanted to be his girlfriend all last school year and he, through friends like the girl that asks him to bike, got her e-mail address, so he has been e-mailing her this summer and messaging with her and I think maybe she went on one of the bike rides too.  I'm not really sure how serious a 11.5 yr old, 5th grader,  PreTeen male can be about a girl, but Tyler felt he was pretty serious about "S" this past school year. He was so serious that he cried over her. From what I have heard, one of Tyler's guy friends was harassing "S" about Tyler or something and "S" had had enough and just let Tyler have it, basically not being very kind about the situation either. I think it was all just a misunderstanding on Tyler's part, it was his friends not him, but Tyler got the punishment and it really hurt his feelings because he really likes "S" and she was flat out rejecting him brutally in front of his friends. Maybe he experienced a life lesson here, maybe like watch was you tell your friends because the action they take on your behalf may not be the action may not be the one you want taken or the way you want it taken.

Anyway, onto the rest of my thinking about the girl issue. I really think that "T"(that what I'll call her), the girl that keeps calling Tyler and is always inviting him on bike rides, really likes him and is using the go between for Tyler and "S" as a decoy. "T" constantly sends Tyler e-mails and instant messages with him and then there is the occasional phone call too. I really think "T" likes Tyler but she is afraid to say so because she knows Tyler just see's her as one of his buddies, like one of the guys.

Ok, so Tyler is/was Mr. Popular with the kids in his class or at least has been in Elementary School. This year Tyler will be headed to the Middle School where he is at the bottom of the food chain once again, so it will be interesting to see how things go where there is a whole new world out there. I'm not sure how many Elementary School come into the Middle School, but I'm pretty sure its safe to say there will be several  hundred new faces in his 6th grade classes.

Speaking of School, we got Tyler's big Middle School ,6th grade class schedule in the mail the week we got back from OH. Tyler had been told by one of his friends, which this boys Mom will be Tyler's AG Language Arts teacher, that he and several of Tyler and his other friends were all in this Teacher's homeroom. Supposedly Saul's Mom had her class list and she told him who all was on that list. Well, when we got Tyler's schedule it didn't say that Mrs.C was the homeroom Teacher, instead Tyler's HR Teacher is his 1st period class, which is the Science and Social Studies Teacher. Right now I can not remember off the top of my head what classes Tyler has first semester, besides the Science and Social Studies and Band. Yes, Band. Tyler has decided that he would like to be in the band. Honestly, I told him I thought it would be a good idea because he is constantly going around drumming on things and can't be still, so why not put some of that energy into playing the drums or something of that sort. Not that I doubt that Tyler could learn something more like the Trumpet or Saxophone, but I think he lacks the discipline it takes in order  play an instrument like that. I know, I used to be in Symphony and Marching band and it takes a lot of dedication. Not knocking or criticizing drummers, they are a main part of most music, but it doesn't take as much as other instruments. With drums, as long as you can read music, and tap out a rhythm, you basically have it made, that is because drumming you can practice with two pencils and a notebook and you can do that anywhere. Other instruments on the other hand takes the instrument itself and actually making noise to practice it. Not that drumming doesn't make noise, I'm just saying you can actually practice working out a song without the actual instrument as long as you can work your hands and read the music.

In the past week we got out the school supply tote and compared that supply list, that was also in the envelope with the schedule, and decided what we still needed to purchase. So we have now gotten all the suggested school supplies for now, but I do not plan to send everything they suggest the first day. That is I don't plan to send it unless I found out Tyler's teacher's will really be wanting him to have the items. That is one good thing about the middle school, you have the opportunity to meet the teacher's before school starts. Two days before school starts this year, and every year they have this, the NWP has what they call Lemonade on the Lawn. The M.S. cheerleaders serve Lemonade to all visitors and pass out maps or answers questions to help everyone be able to find the classrooms they will be having, and then us parents get to go and meet our children's teachers and ask questions briefly. So hopefully I can meet each of Tyler's teacher's at LOTL, and find out what I do and don't need to send with Tyler to school for each of them.

Well I think that is it for now. There you have a little bit of an update on what is going on with Tyler. I still need to get another diary entry for my Mom's diary cranked out tonight and its getting late, so I will close for now.

Until Next Time....................

God Bless, Bridgett and Tyler
