17th Birthday

November 5, 2008

Happy Birthday Ashley

Ashley had her 17th birthday this October.  She really wanted to go to a specific concert, but when the tickets went on sale, the timing wasn't right to buy them.  (We both agreed that it would only be worth going if we had decent tickets where we could see the bands.)

Well, fast forward to the week before her birthday and we decided to see if there were any tickets.  There were, but only for the third level, which we still might have bought except they came to around eighty dollars with tax and fees and such.  It didn't seem worth it to spend eighty dollars on a concert we'd need binoculars to view.

I decided to do an internet search, just in case.  The first set of tickets it found were a grouping of three.  They wanted three hundred dollars because they had VIP passes with them, and that didn't seem worth it.  Plus, Ashley's brother Jon decided he didn't want to go.  I got excited about finding some tickets because we found these, however, so I kept looking.

Finally, I found some on Craig's List.  The price was good--seemed below market to me--and the seats were awesome.  Just fifteen rows back, center-mike.  I couldn't believe how lucky we were.  I e-mailed the seller with a note about Ashley's birthday, and it was a good thing I did.  He decided to sell them to us over someone who had e-mailed him first and several people who had e-mailed him the same night as us because of my e-mail.  He said we sounded like we really wanted to go.

So, we got the most awesome birthday present.  We had such a great time.

I sat with Ashley...

(Jars of Clay)

...and these guys...

(Switchfoot)

...and, most importantly (to me), these guys...

(Third Day)!

Mac Powell has the best voice in Christian music right now, bar none.

Ashley's favorite was Jars of Clay.  She loves their poetic lyrics.

Also playing were Red and The Robert Randolf and the Family BandRed was loud but very energetic.  Robert Randolf was fun.  Switchfoot was very entertaining and wonderful.  Jars of Clay were passionate and awesome.  And Third Day rocks!

Best wishes,

Khy
